Book List By Grade

Yes! There are many benefits to listening to books - hearing how sentences flow together, learning new vocabulary, and even spending time together! However, we do encourage actual reading for most of the books so that students can improve their reading skills.

Absolutely! Reading over the summer is important because it helps prevent the "summer slide," where students can lose some of the reading skills they've gained during the school year. Engaging in summer reading keeps their minds active and better prepared for the next academic year.

If your student is finding the books on their grade list too challenging, we are always happy to work with you and your student to make accommodations. Our goal is to ensure that every student is challenged at an appropriate level while still being able to succeed.

Sure! For example, if your student has already read 'The Wild Robot,' they can read the second book in the series ('The Wild Robot Escapes') and count it as book #1.

Please give it a try! It’s called a ‘challenge’ for a reason and you may be surprised that you find a new genre, author, or series that you enjoy! That being said, we don’t want a certain book to stand in the way of finishing all 10 books.  If needed, we will allow you to switch a book for one that is similar in length and difficulty.

No! All students will get a lanyard.  For each book your child reads, they will get a button to put on that lanyard.  If they read 8 books, they will be invited to an end-of-year Reading Challenge Party.  If they read all 10 books, they will get a prize at that party!
